The Pale Ones (thought to be a pre-Slipknot name) is considered a different band than Slipknot since at the time they didn't use percussion, and started out with just four members.

In September 1995, the band The Pale Ones was created with Shawn Crahan on drums, Paul Gray on bass, Anders Colsefni on vocals and Kun Nong on guitar. After three rehearsals, the band decided to add a second guitarist, recruiting Donnie Steele. Kun eventually left the band after six practices. Later the band changed the name to 'Meld', when Joey Jordison and Josh Brainard joined.
