COMMENTS

Five posi, happy dudes playing angry, heavy music.

Dividing The Masses was formed as a combination of members of the band 'Asyria' plus Dustin's high school band 'Curse Not The King'. It was originally just a basement jam project with no real vision for playing shows.

When they made the move to start jamming all together, Nate, Mikey, and Zach were the three from Asyria, and Dustin, Tyler, and Flick were the three from CNTK.

Early on the band had another vocalist named Zach Fulton for a while who acted as co-vocalist alongside Dustin Schultz, with Dustin at the time doing mainly 'inhale' vocals and Zach doing 'exhale' ones. Dustin says: "Zach Fulton was a founding co-vocalist. He wrote lyrics and recorded vocals on our first EP, which is very tough to find. I'm not even sure his vocal versions are on YouTube? There were only 3 songs."

The first three songs they put on the basement demo (and the songs they added together as a new band) were '24 Heavy', 'Leper's Mask', and 'Co-Extruded Cellular Core'.

There were also guitarists called Jeramie Anderson and Nathan 'Nate' Davis, and bassists called Mikey Thayer and Jake Will. Nate was the original guitarist alongside Tyler, who was replaced by Jeramie, and finally by Drew Hemesath. Mikey was the original bassist, later replaced by Jake Will, and finally by Sam Vance. Dustin says: "Mikey Thayer and Jake Will played bass. Mikey was there at the beginning. Jeramie Anderson played guitar and helped write a couple songs on the first two EPs.". He went on to say: "Nate is Nathan Davis. He played bass as well for a while after Mikey left the band."

Nathan Davis technically was the first 2nd guitarist, but he didn't actually perform or record any of the DTM songs. That'd be Jeramie Anderson.

Nate confirmed that he did not officially play guitar in DTM. That was just with Asyria during the transition phase. He did, however, play bass at a series of shows from 2008-2009.

The 3-song EP before 'Good News For Modern Man' that Zach recorded on had no name. Dustin says: "I recorded all inhale vocals on that one, then switched to exhale once we recorded GNFMM.". He went on to say: "The 3 songs got re-recorded."

The founding members and only ones to stay for the entire duration of the band were Dustin, Tyler, and Kyle.

The first song the band ever recorded was 'The Leper's Mask'.

The song 'Tomari Kamora' is actually the name of a girl that the band once met. It is also the only song the band has ever done that has clean singing on it, for the last minute of the song... and which kind of catches you off-guard!
